Dissolve Neck Fat with Kybella

What is submental fullness?

Submental fullness, sometimes referred to as “double chin,” is a common condition that makes one look older and heavier. It is caused by an accumulation of fat in the front of the neck just under the chin. It affects both men and women and can be influenced by aging, genetics and weight gain. Unfortunately, it is often resistant to both diet and exercise.

What is Kybella (Deoxycholic acid) injections?

Kybella is the first and only FDA-approved injectable drug that contours and improves the appearance of submental fullness due to submental fat.

How does Kybella work?

Kybella (deoxycholic acid) is a naturally-occuring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into subcutaneous fat, it causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, these cells cannot store or accumulate fat.

Are the results of Kybella permanant?

Yes. Because the cells are destroyed, the results should be permanent. If the person gains a significant amount of weight, their neck/chin profile could get worse again.

What is the procedure like?

You will be evaluated by Dr. Kuhlman or Jodi  Wilhelm, CNP to determine if you are a good candidate for Kybella injections. Caution is advised in patients who have excessive loose skin, scar tissue, prior submental surgery, trouble swallowing, severe obesity and are taking blood thinners. Liposuction or a face/neck lift, although very expensive, may be a better option in some people. Pictures of your neck will be taken and we ask that you record your weight. Oral Tylenol and Ibuprofen can be taken before the treatment and we may give topical/injectable Lidocaine and ice to help minimize discomfort. We will then make several marks on your chin and neck, and place a skin marking grid just under your chin to determine how many injections will be required. A very small 30g, 0.5 inch needle will be used to inject several areas just under the chin. The injections only take a few minutes to complete.

How many sessions are required?

In clinical trials, the average person required 2 to 4 sessions spaced at least one month apart, with each session lasting 15 to 20 minutes.

What are the results of Kybella?

Over 20 clinical studies have been conducted on Kybella worldwide. 79% of patients treated with Kybella reported satisfaction with their face and chin appearance. The results can take up to 12 weeks to see.

What are the most common adverse reactions to Kyblella?

Temporary swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness, nodules in the treatment are common after each session.  Tylenol, Ibuprofen and ice can help. We also dispense Arnica Montana to help with swelling and bruising.

How much do Kybella injections cost?

The cost varies greatly depending on how many injections are required. For a woman with a moderate double chin, our average fee is about $750 per session. At Physical and Aesthetic Medicine, our fees are significantly lower than the national average.
